The cost of something is what you give up to get it.
No lunch is free.
The in giving up something for something else is called opportunity cost.
For example, if one spends a year studying at college full-time and not have a job, one is giving up a year of opportunity cost to earn a full-time salary from a full-time job.
Nothing is free.
